Dhikala Zones

Dhikala Zone

The Dhikala Zone is one of the most celebrated wildlife safari areas in Jim Corbett National Park. It is famous for its wide grasslands, Ramganga reservoir, forest trails and opportunities to see elephants, deer, birds and, occasionally, tigers.

Main forest rest houses in Dhikala Zone

  • Dhikala Forest Rest House: Famous for views of the grasslands and Ramganga reservoir.

  • Gairal Forest Rest House: A quieter riverside forest stay, popular with nature lovers and birdwatchers.

  • Sarapduli Forest Rest House: A forest accommodation option in a more secluded setting.

  • Sultan Forest Rest House: Another historic forest lodge in the wider Dhikala tourism area.

How to visit Dhikala Zone

  • Entry gate: Dhangari Gate.

  • Distance: Ramnagar to the gate is approximately 18 km; Dhikala Tourist Complex is farther inside the forest.

  • Opening season: Generally 15 November to 15 June.

  • Safari options: Day visit by canter and overnight stays with permitted safari arrangements.

Dhikala Rest House

The Dhikala Rest House is one of the most famous places to stay inside Jim Corbett National Park. Located in the Dhikala tourism zone of Uttarakhand, it is known for its beautiful grasslands, forest landscapes, views of the Ramganga reservoir and opportunities to spot wild animals.

Unlike staying at a hotel outside the park, staying at Dhikala gives you a chance to experience the forest from inside the protected area.

What makes Dhikala special?

  • Wildlife: The area is known for elephants, spotted deer, sambar, wild boar, crocodiles and a variety of birds. Tiger sightings are possible but never guaranteed.

  • Scenery: Expansive grasslands, riverine forests and views around the Ramganga reservoir make it particularly beautiful.

  • Safari experience: You can explore the surrounding forest on authorized jeep safaris and, subject to availability and park rules, other permitted safari options.

  • Forest accommodation: The rest house offers a distinctive wilderness experience rather than a luxury-resort holiday.

Gairal Rest House

Gairal Rest House is a forest lodge inside the Dhikala Zone of Jim Corbett National Park. It is especially appealing if you prefer a quieter riverside stay surrounded by forest rather than a busy tourist complex. The rest house dates back to 1903.

What is Gairal like?

  • Location: Beside the Ramganga River, inside the forest.

  • Accommodation: Four rooms in the newer rest house and an eight-bed dormitory, according to published information.

  • Wildlife: Elephants, deer, birds and other wildlife may be seen nearby. Gharials and crocodiles can sometimes be observed at nearby river pools.

  • Food: A canteen serves basic meals; confirm current arrangements when booking.

  • Electricity: Facilities are limited, with solar lighting or backup rather than normal household electricity.

  • Access: Through Dhangari (Dhangarhi) Gate, with an authorized vehicle and the necessary permit.
